Volunteerism
is the lifeline of any volunteer organization. In 2002 three people were coaching and running Shooting Star.
Now we have better than 16 volunteers. Shooting Star has hired summer students, encouraged young players to become
referees and have introduced players and parents to the game of basketball. Please contact the Basketball
Coordinator if you are interested in helping out with any aspect of ShootingStar.
Volunteer Requirements Parents and people with basketball experience and
knowledge are required to make the game possible for players of all ages. Coaching is essential for players to
play. We try to mix people with basketball knowledge and parents for the best outcome for Shooting Star teams.
Coaching is not the only requirement there are other requirements. Team Managers, Score Keeping, Registration and
Tournament Organizers are just some of the needs.
Everyone is a Volunteer Even if you have not signed up for a volunteer
activity there is a requirement for everyone to assist in making games happen. Games simply will not happen if
parents drop their child off and expect everything to happen. Parents are needed to: 1. Assists
with setup and tear down of gyms (chairs and clean up) and encourage players to do the same. 2. Attend the door
to ensure guest adhere to rules (no footwear and food). 3. Operate scoreboard during game. 4. Complete
official score sheet during the game.
Coaches will be asking for assistance in these areas. Please offer
to lend a hand!!!
Opportunities We have needs in specific areas such as: 1. Web Development. 2. Tournament Committee Member.
(Organize Christmas and Provincial Tournaments) 3. Equipmant Manager. 4. Registrar. and Others
Other areas like coaching and board members are needed.
