Little Dribblers (5 to 7 year olds) runs one hour for 8 weeks at King’s-Edgehill School.  The focus of the time is provide fun activity for the children.  We want the children to develop a comfort with being in the gym.  We want the children to do fun activities while learning how to run, jump and gain hand to eye coordination.  Learning how to dribble, pass and catch a ball are priorities.  We will do some shooting and there is a possibility to play some games if we are invited to tournaments, but this is not our focus.

·        A parent or guardian is to remain in the gym at all times for this age group.   We strongly encourage parents to participate with their children by following the lead of the coaches.  Indoor shoes only in the gym.

·        As an association we may consider a spring session of 4 weeks in April and May.

Junior Mini Girls and Boys (8 and 9 year olds) practice time is on average 1½ times per week.  See calendar on website for details.  These teams play in the Valley League.  League play usually starts up the first weekend in November.  A schedule will be posted on website and/or handed out by the coach. Home games will be on Friday evenings with the early slot being used for the team that is not playing as a practice.  Practice and game schedules are confirmed by coaches.  Player/parent arrival and gym set up for games is to start at 6:45, without disrupting the team that is practicing.  Generally speaking there is a schedule of 10 games.  Coaches will endeavour to make up missed games, but the league schedule is not a guarantee of the number of games that are played.  There is an end of year tournament called a “Jamboree” where a couple games get played in a day late in February.  Additional games and tournaments may be sought out but will be done with parental approval because of time and financial commitments that may be required of parents.

Junior Mini teams play a 4 on 4 game format and equal playing times for shifts.  We strongly endorse the practice of wiping the score at the end of each shift and the notion that playing is more important than the score.

Mini Girls and Boys (10 and 11 year olds) practice twice a week.  See calendar on website for details.  Bantam Teams (ages 12 and 13) practice 1½ times a week during the Junior High season, the teams are designed to provide additional basketball opportunities to school programs.   Home games are on Sundays at either Avon View High School or King's-Edgehill School.  Both levels play in the Valley League. The league has a year ending tournament near the end of February.

In addition, we play games over the Christmas break, one day two game event, we try to get additional games in March to prepare for provincials.  Provincial tournament are put on by Basketball Nova Scotia and are held at the end of March and the beginning of April, see calendar dor details.  As an association we apply to host provincial tournaments every year.  We may also be invited to additional tournaments.  Due to additional time and financial commitments tournaments will only be entered with parental approval.

We play equal playing time at the mini level.  Once we get to the Bantam levels every player at the bantam level will play at least 25% of each game.  Playing time is contingent upon effort, ability and attendance and is a coacing decision.
